Marine Body,
Hull & Fibreglass
Repair Cayman

Beyond engines, generators, and propulsion — MDI's West Bay workshop handles the full range of vessel-side work that keeps Cayman's fleet in service. Body damage, fibreglass repair, hull restoration, cosmetic gelcoat, marine electrics, trailers, storage advice, and emergency call-outs.

Hull to Helm —
From Engines
To Everything Else.

Most marine workshops in Cayman specialise in one thing. MDI runs a full-service waterfront facility — meaning when your vessel needs work outside the engine bay, you don't have to chase a separate vendor. Body and fibreglass repair, hull restoration, gelcoat and cosmetic work, marine electrics, trailers, and emergency assistance are all handled by the same Caymanian-owned team that's serviced the island's fleet for 40+ years.

Insurance claims, storm damage, collision repair, routine cosmetic refresh — we'll quote it honestly, document it properly, and turn the boat around quickly so you're back on the water.

Eight Services,
One Workshop.

Whether it's structural fibreglass repair after a grounding or a quick gelcoat touch-up before charter season — here's what our team handles.

Hull & Structure

Marine Body Repair

Impact damage, collision damage, transom and stringer repair, structural fibreglass work. Insurance-documented assessments. Storm and grounding damage is a regular part of our workload.

Hull & Structure

Fibreglass Repair

Cracks, delamination, gelcoat blistering, deck core damage, stress fractures. Done properly so the repair holds up to Cayman's heat, sun, and salt — not just looks good on day one.

Hull & Structure

Hull Restoration

Full hull refresh for older vessels — strip-and-refinish, bottom paint preparation, fairing, blister treatment, and bringing aged hulls back to working condition. Pre-charter or pre-sale restoration projects welcome.

Cosmetic

Gelcoat & Cosmetic Repairs

Scratch repair, gelcoat patching, colour matching, helm and console refinishing, scuff repair on deck and topsides. The detail work that keeps a vessel looking like an asset, not a project.

Systems

Marine Electrics

Wiring fault diagnosis, panel replacement, helm electronics integration, navigation lights, bilge pumps, battery systems, and engine-side electrical troubleshooting. The same team handles your engine and your electrical — no finger-pointing between vendors.

Systems

Trailer Repairs

Boat trailer servicing — bearings, brakes, axles, lights, wiring, and ramp-side roadworthiness checks. Important before a launch and worth doing before the next emergency haul-out.

Support

Vessel Storage & Hurricane Prep Advice

Practical guidance on where and how to lay up your vessel during hurricane season — dockside, on the hard, or hauled. We'll walk you through the prep checklist for your specific boat and storage situation.

Support

Emergency Assistance

Mechanical trouble at the dock, fluid leak, electrical fault, or vessel taking on water — we respond to emergency call-outs across Grand Cayman. Call 345.949.3555 — Mon–Fri business hours.

Marine Body & Hull
Repair FAQs

Do you do marine body and fibreglass repair in the Cayman Islands?
Yes. MDI's West Bay workshop handles marine body repair, fibreglass repair, hull restoration, and cosmetic gelcoat work on all vessel types — sport fishers, dive boats, motor yachts, sailboats, and commercial vessels. Our waterfront facility has a large slip, full bulkhead dock, and an on-water yard for trailered vessels.
Can I bring my damaged boat to your dock for an assessment?
Yes. Motor in to our West Bay dock, tie up, and our team will assess the damage and walk you through the scope of repair. For vessels that can't move under their own power, we can arrange tow-in or assess at your marina berth or private dock.
Do you handle insurance work for marine damage claims?
Yes. We work directly with major Cayman Islands marine insurers — providing detailed damage assessments, photographs, written repair scopes, and itemised quotes that meet typical insurance documentation requirements. Storm damage, collision damage, and grounding incidents are all within our regular workload.
What kinds of fibreglass damage can you repair?
All standard fibreglass damage including impact cracks, delamination, gelcoat blistering, stress cracks, deck core damage, transom repair, and structural fibreglass restoration. For severely compromised hulls we provide an honest assessment of whether repair or replacement makes more sense for the vessel.
Do you offer mobile marine repair across the Cayman Islands?
Yes. For work that can be done on-site, our mobile team services vessels at your marina berth, private dock, or commercial slip — anywhere across Grand Cayman, Little Cayman, and Cayman Brac. Larger hull and body work is typically done at our West Bay workshop where we have the proper space and equipment.
Do you do marine electrics and trailer repairs as well?
Yes. Our additional capabilities include marine electrical systems (wiring, troubleshooting, helm electronics), trailer repairs (axles, lights, brakes, bearings), vessel storage advice for hurricane preparation, and emergency call-outs when something goes wrong on the water.
How long does a typical body or hull repair take?
It depends entirely on damage scope. Cosmetic gelcoat work can sometimes be completed in a few days. Significant structural fibreglass or hull restoration ranges from one to several weeks. After initial assessment our team provides a realistic timeline based on the actual job — no surprises mid-project.
