A West Bay family business rooted in Cayman since 1985 — 40+ years of marine engine and generator expertise, built on integrity, pride, and a commitment to keeping Cayman's vessels at sea and generators running strong.
Marine Diesel & Industrial Maintenance Co Ltd was founded in 1985 by a Caymanian family with deep roots in West Bay — built on a reputation for honest work, genuine expertise, and an unshakeable commitment to keeping Cayman's vessels at sea.
Our roots go beyond engine repair. For a period we were also in the boat building business through our sister company, Islands Boats Ltd — manufacturing high-quality vessels locally right here in Cayman, including the iconic Miss Marine Diesel, our shop mascot that still turns heads at the dock.
40+ years on, we remain Grand Cayman's family-owned full-service marine and generator workshop, and the island's only authorised Yanmar dealer. The faces have grown, the capabilities have expanded — but the family values that built this business haven't changed a bit.
Our workshop sits directly on the water in West Bay — with a large slip, full bulkhead dock space, and an on-water yard where customers tie up and we service the boat without it ever leaving Cayman waters. For everything else, our mobile team services vessels, generators, and equipment anywhere across Grand Cayman, Little Cayman, and Cayman Brac.
Marine Diesel has been part of Cayman's waterfront for four decades. From the original West Bay workshop to Miss Marine Diesel, the boats we built through Islands Boats Ltd, and the same crew that's been with the family nearly from the start — these photos are how we got here.
Billy has been serving these islands for over 40 years — keeping the lights on through Ivan, keeping our tourism fleet seaworthy, and picking up every phone call from every customer for longer than most people have been alive. Tucked away in West Bay, unabashedly there when you need him.
He is the bedrock of MDI — and continues to teach and pass on priceless wisdom on the business, on engines, and on keeping our ships underway and our gensets running strong.
We tell you what your engine or generator actually needs — not what makes us the most money. Honest assessments, fair pricing, no surprises on the invoice.
40+ years of hands-on marine and generator experience in Cayman's specific environment. Salt air, tropical heat, hurricane prep — we know what Cayman demands of engines.
We show up, we do the work, and we stand behind it. When you need your boat ready or your generator running, we make sure it happens.
